PrepayPower to freeze electricity and gas prices for winter months
Pay-as-you-go energy provider PrepayPower has announced a price freeze for its electricity and gas customers for the winter months.
The company said it will not increase prices until March 1 – at the earliest.
PrepayPower has 240,000 customer accounts comprising 180,000 electricity and 60,000 gas accounts.
Its CEO Cathal Fay said the company has taken the decision to freeze prices in light of the cost-of-living pressures facing its customers.
“As we head into the winter, we want to give our customers certainty that we will not increase prices before March of next year at the earliest,” he said.
PrepayPower has decreased prices twice since the start of 2023 – and has not had any increases in that period.
Energy companies SSE Airtricity, Bord Gáis Energy, Energia and Pinergy have all announced price increases for their electricity customers in recent weeks. Flogas has also increased its prices.
However, Electric Ireland said it was not increasing prices for its electricity customers ahead of the winter – while it lowered its gas prices by 4%.
